To The Rescue!!!

Hi Everyone!

Maybe you know that I play keyboards in a great Dutch band called RUDDY SHELDUCK.  We have just recorded a demo, and we would like to make a video for one of the songs to put it on Youtube.

The title of the song we are doing the video for is called TO THE RESCUE.  It's an up-tempo, punky kind of song, and we would greatly love your help to create some original art for the video.

What we would like you to do:
Send us a drawing, inspired by the title TO THE RESCUE.  We plan to intercut drawings with live action, in a very basic, DIY fashion.  Very simple, eh?

Here are some guidelines:
Subject - whatever you want, as long as it's inspired by the title TO THE RESCUE.
Size, format - It's for a video on Youtube, so it doesn't have to be a huge drawing, or extremely high resolution.  Whatever you feel comfortable with.  JPG format please.
Artistic Quality and Finish - We are not asking for a super-high-quality piece of art.    A sketch, rough drawing, crayon scribble or whatever you can get to us will be fine.
Timeframe - Send us your drawing/artistic creation by Tuesday 22 November.  Yes, it's not a long time, but the idea is this is a burst of inspiration from you.  Don't worry if you miss the date, but try to send them as soon as you can.
Where to send your drawing - Please email to me at hypersphinx@hotmail.com
Use, Copyright, etc. - Any drawing you send has to be free for us to use in the video.

That's about it!  If you have any questions just let me know.

Thank you!!!!

Jason

crane

These lovely birds don't stay around long for you to take their photo, but they are incredibly graceful and seem to fly away in slow motion.  I just about caught this one :-)

The Sun

Don't ever look directly into the sun.  A gorgeous sunset yesterday at the beach.  Just awesome.  The spot on the left-hand side of the sun is Venus.  I think :-)

Captured!

There are loads of quiet nature spots around the city, just a few minutes' bike ride from home.  We snapped this bird just before sunset, when the light has that "magic" look.

Haarlem Concerts!!

Haarlem Patronaat cafĂ© hosts free concerts every week.  Last Friday was a great 4-band event.  Kicking off things was a great band called Labasheeda.  Great performance!!

The Moon

To commemorate the umpteenth reissue of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, here is a photo I took of the moon last month during the Haarlem Jazz festival.  I was amazed at being able to capture the moon with such detail from my camera.  Even more amazing was that I snapped the International Space Station too!
Well, as you can imagine, the ISS was pasted on, but I actually did take that photo of the moon :-D

Just read a great book

I put aside Brian Aldiss's "Greybeard" for a week to read an incredibly funny book called "Bad Vibes: Britpop and my part in its downfall" by Luke Haines, driving force behond '90s band The Auteurs.  An account of the ups and downs of the author's life as he finds fame, kicks it away, the finds it again.  You laugh at his envy of better-selling, but of course less-talented contemporaries.  The hated Damon Albarn, poor old talentless Suede.  An insider's view of how Britpop happened, so coloured by the author's subjectivity it's hard to take anything he says seriously.  Good job the story has a fairly happy ending, otherwise it certainly woudn't have seen the light of day.

Afraid of the rain

So here is the new song.  It's called Afraid of the rain, and as I mentioned in the previous post it's inspired by some pretty naff weather - which by the way is NOT normal for this time of year, even in the Netherlands.

Hope you like it, even though it's not really apt if you are having a "proper" summer :-)

A shouty tune

So, the last tune I recorded was a shouty thing I composed a couple of years ago.  It's called Agnostic, and it's not really a religious song, more outrage that we are still - as a race - pretty basic in our evolution.

What I'm working on

I am currently working on a new song, inspired by the beautiful weather we have had this summer.  Officially the Worst Summer Since 1906, so it's not just a case not adjusting to a cooler climate, rather the weather has been flippin' 'orrible.  Anyway it has lyrics, and basic structure, and is just missing a bridge, so as soon as it is ready I will publish it somewhere.  I am a big fan of '80s music, and I was pleasantly surprised when I realised there was an air of Hugh Padgham about it.  Hugh (in the photo above - no, it's not me!!) was along with Trevor Horn, one of the key producers of the '80s.  His work includes Genesis, The Police, Paul McCartney and another of my all-time faves Mansun.

What I'm reading

I'm thoroughly enjoying Brian Aldiss's novel GREYBEARD.  It's classic Aldiss, and you can clearly see echoes of this book (first published in 1964) in the films V for Vendetta and Children of Men.

Hi!
Thanks for tuning in to the blog.  I hope to keep it tidy and post stuff that is rocking my own particular world, and maybe you can find something for you too :-)
